Does Anyone Know of Any Good Akita Beeders in UK?

Me and my Husband are looking for a Japenese Akita Puppy in the UK we have looked at a few breeders but wondered if anyone has got an Akita Pup from a breeder and are happy with it . We are wanting the dog as a pet and a possibly a show dog. We would be very greatfull for any help. Thank you all.

Do you mean Japanese Akita or Akita? In the UK (and the rest of the world besides the US and Canada) there are two seperate breeds of Akita.

The Japanese Akita Inu is fairly uncommon in the UK, there are only a handful of breeders, take a look at:

The Akita (American) breed has a large fan base in the UK with many top breeders, here are some of them:

http://www.dantiakitas.co.uk/demi.shtml

http://www.ruthdales.co.uk/

http://www.melodor.co.uk/

Any of those breeders should be happy to help you find the pup of your dreams! Good luck.

You should really look into a rescue dog. You could get the breed of your choice- probably even get a puppy if you were willing to wait for one. I understand you might want to show the dog- but if you are a true animal lover I’m sure you’ll agree that it isn’t worth contributing to the suffering of so many dogs. There are plenty of good dogs out there who NEED homes.

Hi, I don’t know of any but I would say ask at your local shelter before going to a breeder. Also you would have to be very careful getting an Akita with a little baby

Good luck, Akitas are tough to train. :)
Try the Blue Cross, any shelter you can find, or http://www.petfinder.com

This is a breeders site which is good because most dogs are from a Champion line, and the breeders show dogs, and breed on the side, so this would be your best bet:

However always try adoptiong first! :)

If you want to show then look at the Kennel Club site for some Akita winning dogs – then contact those kennels.

Kennel Club will have links to breed clubs too.

If for a pet you will find quite a few at Battersea Dogs home (the dog is not for everyone and get’s abandoned A LOT!) Battersea will rehome all over the country.

    Good Luck

Have a look at the Kennel Club website. It will give you a list of all the accredited breeders in your area, as well as contact details etc.

The best thing to do is go along to some championship shows on the days when Akita’s are being judged and speak to the breeders there. If you want a show dog it will have to have an excellent breed standard, and you will have to find a breeder who is willing to sell on a dog who has show potential. You can also contact the breed club. There is also breed rescue. Research this breed carefully before you have one. Choose the breeder carefully. There are some Akita’s in rescue who also need homes so your may want to consider one of them.

They are just called Akitas now – unless you are after a Japanese Akita Inu.
They are a wonderful breed but not to be recommended to the novice owner. I certainly wouldn’t recommend getting one from rescue if you have young children.
Contact the Secretary of the Akita Association who should be able to put you in touch with reputable breeders.
Akitas have a lot of health problems and there is a lot of indiscrimante breeding going on – make sure you know all the health checks the parents should have before buying and don’t buy a pup which isn’t KC Reg.

Good Luck. They are the best breed in the world!

Try your local rescue, Akitas often end up in rescue. Whatever you do please don’t buy one. We live in a disgusting society where people breed despite homeless dogs losing their lives.

Redwitch Akitas…they have a website. I know one of the breeders so I can safely recommend them
