How Do I Stop My Akita From Biting My Ankles?

ok so i have a 6 month old male akita. i try to be firm with him but i don't know how to break this habit. and yes i read cesar millan books. So sometimes when i go out side he's right beside me and then he'll lay on the ground chewing on my ankles, i know he just wants my attention but it really hurts. and when i try to leave he'll walk between my legs and stay there lol so i can't leave i guess anyway ignoring him doesn't seem to work what do i do?

Be very consistent. EVERY time, be ready to shove a toy in his mouth. Say "NO" firmly, and push a toy in his mouth.

When he's laying next to you without putting teeth on you, praise him and give him attention. That's what he wants. Attention. Make sure you are noticing when he's being good even if it's a few seconds of good behavior, not just when he's chewing on you. When he starts chewing…do the NO and toy thing, then ignore him till he's doing what you want. Chewing the toy. Pretty soon he'll go to the toy, and you praise him. You'll almost be able to see him thinking "oh! I'm supposed to chew the TOY."

teaching mouthy dogs this age to learn to play a civilized game of tug of war. It's a great way to teach impulse and jaw control in adolescent and adult dogs who missed early bite inhibition and manners lessons.

Kick it every time it bites.

It's mean but it works. Fast.

every time it bites, yip at it as if you were another dog, and keep doing so. she should pull back when you yip. this worked for my dog and it has worked for others i suggested to.

do NOT yell no because your dog becomes use to this and will totally ignore it one day. try the yipping orsay uh-uh in a sharp, loud tone.
