ok so i have a 6 month old male akita. i try to be firm with him but i don't know how to break this habit. and yes i read cesar millan books. So sometimes when i go out side he's right beside me and then he'll lay on the ground chewing on my ankles, i know he just wants my attention but it really hurts. and when i try to leave he'll walk between my legs and stay there lol so i can't leave i guess anyway ignoring him doesn't seem to work what do i do?
Be very consistent. EVERY time, be ready to shove a toy in his mouth. Say "NO" firmly, and push a toy in his mouth.
When he's laying next to you without putting teeth on you, praise him and give him attention. That's what he wants. Attention. Make sure you are noticing when he's being good even if it's a few seconds of good behavior, not just when he's chewing on you. When he starts chewing…do the NO and toy thing, then ignore him till he's doing what you want. Chewing the toy. Pretty soon he'll go to the toy, and you praise him. You'll almost be able to see him thinking "oh! I'm supposed to chew the TOY."
