Is Adopting a 1 Year Old Female AKITA a Bad Idea?

I am planning to adopt a GORGEOUS 1 year old, female, akita.
I love them soo much! Especially because they’re loyal..
But will she be loyal to me over time? Will she bond with me? I mean.. shes a year old.. Wont it be hard to adjust?

Any tips on getting an akita to bond with you at one year old?
thanks!

You can NEVER go wrong with an Akita, especially if you’re adopting her. My Akita just turned 10 in December, I’ve had him since I was 11. He is the best dog I have ever had.
1 year old is very young, you guys will bond in no time. Akitas are extremely loyal and loving. And very good watch dogs. He is the best companion I have ever had. You’re getting a lifelong friends here!

I think adopting pets is a GREAT idea! They dog may be shy at first, but it will quickly warm up to you if you keeps showing it lots of love and kindness!

    Thumbs up for adoption!!

The dog will get to know you eventually. You just have to bond. A dog thats a year old is young, technically, considering dogs can live up to 20 years.

You are going to have a lot of time to pay attention to her.
Time to train her, care for her, take her on walks, a fenced in area, the money to provide vet care for her..etc

If you have the time, courage, love, and are set financially to have a dog then you are set!

Besk of luck, hope you get the dog, let us know how it goes :)

Well, if you know about the breed and how to train them, you should be fine. Adopted dogs almost always adjust quickly to their new homes.

Good luck, adopting is great! So are Akitas!

At a year old, she’s nearly still a baby :)
She may not bond with you immediately, but give her time to adjust and realize that you are there to give her a home forever she will become increasingly loyal to you.
Just treat her right, take her for walks, play with her, train her, and you should be fine.

oh my gosh i have an akita too!
its a boy though and we got him around 8 months old.. i think hes 3 or 4 now?
im sure if you spend time with her and just play with her she’ll get used to you. You know, like take her for walks, play fetch, and just be around her so she can get used to you

Being that she is only 1 year old – she will likely have no problem bonding to you. I’m glad you are going to adopt her. My last 2 dogs – both Coonhounds – I adopted from the shelter and I’m glad I did.

as long as she is under two yrs it will be very easy for her to adjust to you.

Of course a 1 year old dog can bond with a new owner.. A 15 year old dog can bond with a new owner.. Dogs aren’t like people.. they easily move on, they are looking for love and when they find it, they are at home.

Thank you for considering adoption first!!

The only problems you should really face is shyness and training. Overall, just make sure your home and lifestyle can accommodate such a high-maintenance breed.

All dogs need time to adjust to a new home. This can take from three days to weeks, just give her time and be patient. Be gentle with her, talk nicely, and don’t make any sudden movements.

Akitas are wonderful dogs, and its great you are planning to adopt! Im sure the dog will have know problem bonding with you, technically medium and large size dogs mature more slowly than small dogs. Large sized dogs usaually takes 3 or more years to mature into an adult, as were a small or toy breed only take about a year and a half. Hope i could help!
