Whats the Upkeep Cost for an Akita? Also Whats the Cost of an Akita to Purchase?

I am thinking about getting an akita. SO i needed to check the costs before buying one.
forget the one
abot me owning one.
i wanted an akita becuase i had one in the past and know from experince that i can handel one
i wanted an akita becuase i had taken care of my neighbors. I know can handel it.

It all depends, they eat the same as a normal large dog. The price will vary depending on what kind of food you use to feed them. I take mine to be groomed and clipped usually every 4 months or so, it costs around £50 each time.
They can be expensive, you can try looking into a shelter in your area as many are given up. I got mine from a breeder for £800.

    Why an Akita? (just curious)

    Akitas have special fur- like a Husky – which consists of a top coat and an inner coat. You’ll need to consider the cost of grooming regularly.

    Also an Akita is a high-energy/maintenance animal.

    "Akitas, as with other breeds, are susceptible to some health problems, some of a genetic nature, others viral. The following is a listing of some of the more common health issues that can be found in the Akita breed:

    * Acquired Myathenia Gravis

    * Bloat

    * Eye Problems

    * Hip Dysplasia

    * Unique Juvenile-Onset Polyarthritis Syndrome of Akita Dogs

    * Uveo-Dermatological Syndrome (VKH)

    * von Willebrand’s Disease (vWD)"

    Costs are not as important as personality and care. Upkeep for an akita can be expensive. They are big dogs so they need to eat a lot. Grooming can be time consuming and needs to be professionally done at least once a year. They are prone to many health problems so their vet bills can be pricey. The cost for the breed can be more than some breeds, and depends. Try adopting, why buy when others die?

    Also akitas can be known for their snappy behavior, so be sure you take the time to train it.

    Hi. I won’t lecture you about why or why not to get an akita-but it is part of the link I’ll include at the end-an important read for anyone considering this breed. If you’ve handled Akitas before you know they can be hard to handle-both because of their size and their stubborn "I’ll do what I want to" nature. Cost for any dog depends on a lot of things but I’ll throw a few numbers at you. To buy a full-breed quality Akita from a legitimate breeder you’ll pay $800-1200 (even more if it’s show quality). Your initial vet visit will be a few hundred dollars-way more if there are any complications and needed follow-up. Supplies at first like a kennel, leashes, collars, tags, etc. may run you a few hundred dollars. Yearly checkups can average $100-$200 plus more for complications and follow up. A QUALITY dog food will run you $50-$75/ 2 months or so. Random vet visits during the year will cost depending on the problem-this can be costly but just depends on the problem (see the various health problems associated with the Akita breed on the link I give you). Toys, chews and treats over the course of a year may range between a few hundred dollars. Dog tags/city licensing/insurance through your homeowners may be around $100/year. Akitas don’t need much grooming and what they do need you can do yourself (If I can do it, anyone can=LOL!) but if not you better consider the cost of a groomer…maybe $50/ visit?!? Not cheap by any means but if you’ve fallen in live with Akitas, you’ll understand. Adopt one from a rescue or shelter-you’ll save yourself $1000 or so plus save a life!
